Referrals & Bookings

How Referrals and Bookings Work
Individuals can contact us directly to book an initial consultation appointment with our psychologist, neuropsychologist or psychotherapist. A referral is not required for any of our services, i.e. assessment, intervention and education. Clients can self-refer.
A referral may entitle clients to access a Medicare rebate through a range of funding schemes.
GP referrals should be accompanied by a Mental Health Treatment Plan (previously known as Mental Health Care Plan) so clients can access a Medicare Rebate for psychological therapies. GP referrals should specifically state the number of therapy sessions that clients are being referred for. A Mental Health Treatment Plan entitles eligible clients to a Medicare rebate for up to 10 individual and 10 group sessions per calendar year. Clients are also require a referral from their paediatricians, if applicable.
For an Eating Disorder Management Plan, clients may be eligible to apply a Medicare rebate for up to 40 psychological sessions within 12 months of the date of the referral. To access this rebate, clients need a referral from their GPs or paediatricians.
A Helping Children with Autism referral entitles eligible children to a Medicare rebate for up to 20 allied health, including psychological therapies. Clients require a referral from their paediatrician.
Medicare rebates are not available for creative arts therapies. However, eligible NDIS participants may be able to access funding for our creative arts therapy under the support cluster of ‘Capacity Building’ – Improved Daily Living (assessment, training, strategy development and/or therapy supports).
Clients who are referred by a psychiatrist can access Medicare Rebates for psychological therapies without obtaining a Mental Health Treatment Plan from their GPs. Psychiatrist referrals should state the number of therapy sessions that clients are being referred for.
Eligible NDIS participants may be able to access funding for our creative arts therapy under the support cluster of ‘Capacity Building’ – Improved Daily Living (assessment, training, strategy development and/or therapy supports) to assist the development or increase a participant’s skills and/or capacity for independence and community participation. Its item number is 15_615_0128_1_3.
Self-managed NDIS participants can contact us directly to organise and schedule assessment services.
For plan-managed NDIS participants, their planner can typically confirm whether funds have been allocated for these purposes and seek approval to access our services under the participants’ plan.
We are registered provider for Transport Accident Commissions (TAC) and offer assessments and interventions to clients who have a TAC claim number and require neuropsychological services as a result of a transport accident injury. The services may be fully funded by TAC. Clients can make a referral for themselves or by a GP.
Private health insurance rebates may be available depending on clients’ level of cover, for Australian Unity, HBA, Medibank Private, MBF, and most other health funds.
The rebate from each health fund may vary. Some health funds require their clients to have exhausted their Medicare-funded sessions for the year before private health fund rebate is applicable for psychological services. Clients need to check with their private health provider to determine the possible rebate rate available.
Overseas students may eligible for a Mental Health Treatment Plan and be able to claim some of the cost with Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). Seeing a psychologist can be a helpful step towards managing anxiety and depression. To claim some of the cost through OSHC, clients are required to make an appointment to see a GP, and ask them for a Mental Health Treatment Plan. This health cover pays for some but not all of the psychologist fee.
